Lares Trek 4 Days to Machu Picchu Briefing
The Lares Trek to Machu Picchu offers hikers enchanting landscapes and interaction with rural Andean farmers dressed in their traditional ponchos with distinctive local colors.
You will see stone houses with thatched roofs, magical mountain scenery, llamas and alpacas roaming freely in the mountains, and a total absence of frenetic tourist crowds, the beautiful Lares Valley has all the natural beauty of the Inca Trail – magical mountain scenery and the legacy of the Incas – but without the tourist crowds.
The advantage of this trek is that permits are not required and, an wonderful hike offering a unique view into the lifestyles and traditions of the Andean people.
The Lares Trek is similar in difficulty to the Inca Trail (with one challenging (4,550m – 14924ft.) high pass. 2 nights camping and one night accommodation in Aguas Calientes before to visit Machu Picchu.

We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco center at 5 a.m. to begin the famous Lares Trek to Machu Picchu. It’ll be a three-hour drive along the beautiful landscape of the Sacred Valley and through the Andes. Once we arrive at the Lares Hot Springs (3250m. – 10660ft.) , and you’ll enjoy the hot springs, which are divided up between various pools ranging from freezing to hot water. They’re all composed of pure volcanic water, which is medicinal and considered to be good for your bones, stress, muscles, and headaches.
After soaking in the pools we will have the lunch where you’ll enjoy your first homemade meal prepared by our trekking chef, after our delicious lunch It’ll be three hours and a half hours of gradually uphill hiking. this section of the hike is considered the potato valley area, because people farm many varieties of organic potatoes also will see many llamas and alpacas walking over the mountains like wild animals until we arrive at the campsite in Wacahuasi (3800m. – 12464ft) there you’ll be welcomed by the local family who’ll have your tents set up. We’ll enjoy some hot drinks as the sky darkens and the stars start appearing. Finally, you’ll enjoy a lovely dinner, overnight.

Today we will be woken up around 5:30a.m., then we will take our energetic breakfast, today offers the most captivating scenery. We wi’ll begin the hike four-hour climb to get to the summit of Ipsaycocha high pass (4550m. – 14924ft.) on the way we will see, Andean farmers dressed in their traditional, brightly colored ponchos and head-wear, tending their crops and alpaca and llama herds. Our time here is an unforgettable experience and excellent opportunity to connect with the Nature (Pachamama), you’ll have spectacular views of the colorful Ipsaycocha lake (4,280m / 14,380ft.). We will stop for a well-deserved lunch close to the Lake. There’ll be some llamas grazing nearby. After lunch, we’ll hike the last three hours downhill. There’ll be fantastic views of the Valley, llamas, and alpacas, before arriving at Patacancha (3800m. – 12464ft.) Overnight, dinner.

In the morning we will take our breakfast, start another beautiful day of hiking by the Patacancha Valley, first we will take a transportation for about 30 minutes to Pumamarka from here we will have a nice view of the Inca´s terraces, then will continue walking down to Ollantaytambo (2800. -9184ft.) the only living intact Inca village, It still has many Inca water channels, houses, and walls. Your guide will take you around to view this small town until it’s time for lunch.
After the lunch the cook will say good bye and then we will continúe to the train station to take the train to Aguas Calientes (1515m. – 4969ft.) (Machu Picchu town), where we will spend the night, free afternoon, dinner.

Day four is the most magical day because you’ll finally experience Machu Picchu. We’ll wake up early to start to walk up to Machu Picchu (2400m. – 7872 ft.) citadel for about an hour and half. After show the passports and register at the checkpoint, we will begin our 2-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu. Afterwards, you will have free time to explore this amazing Inca city at your leisure. You can also visit Huayna Picchu mountain (2700m. – 8856ft.) or Machu Picchu mountain (3000m. – 9840ft.) (optional – additional cost and reservation required in advance), return to Aguas Calientes and finally, we will returning by train to Ollantaytambo and then taking a bus back to Cusco.
