Ausangate trek and Rainbow Mountain Briefing
The Ausangate snow mountain (6,384m./20939) is considered a deity by all of the Andean villages who live in its around, the local people locally known as an Apu Ausangate (Protective Mountain), is locate in the South East of the city of Cusco and situated in the Vilcanota mountain range in the Peruvian Andes.

Ausangate Trek Rainbow Mountain 4 Days is one of the most famous mountain treks in the region of Cusco, is a perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the modern world.

The natural geography of the land and the warmth of its’ people, will make this hike a unique and unforgettable experience.

This trek offers wild life, glaciers, waterfalls, frozen rivers, and beautiful views await us down into fertile valleys and southeast to the snowcapped mountains of the Vilcanota mountain range over the Canchis Valley, are home to an array of wildlife that includes chinchillas, vicuñas, Andean foxes and condors, as well as the famous Rainbow Mountain.

🏁 Starts from your accommodation in Cuzco at 05:30 A.M.
🔚 Ends to the center of Cuzco at about 17:00 P.M.

DAY 1:
Cusco – Upis – Yana Qocha

🚐 Transportation: 3 hours
🚶‍♂️ Walking distance: 12 km./7.4 mi.
🕗 Duration: 7 hours

📉 Maximum elevation: 4350m. / 14272ft.
⛺ Lodging: Yanacocha

Early morning we will pick up you from the hotel 5:30 a.m., then we will drive three and a half hours in our transport, along the way will see different small towns, snow mountains until to reach the town of Upis, (4350m./14272ft.)

Where we will meet our muleteers and horses, we will prepare to start the great adventure. the beginning is gradually walking uphill for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes

Following the valley seeing llamas and alpacas and spectacular views of Ausangate snow mountain (6384m./2093ft.) , then we will have the lunch in a place called Pamparapa (4600m./15092ft.) After lunch, we will continue walking for approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to our first camping site, Yana Qocha (4650m./15256ft.) dinner, overnight.

⛺ Lodging: Pucacocha

After our energetic breakfast, we will enjoy in our second day of the Ausangate trek, this day we will walk up on the highlands and we will cross to the Arapa high pass (4850m./15908ft).

From this point we will enjoy a contrast view between the dry desert like the hills and the impressive views of the snowy mountains Ausangate and Pucacocha, after 4 hours walking we will have the lunch, after lunch we will walk by the andes beautiful landscape and we will have a magnificent view of three beautiful lakes with shades of red, green and turquoise

(Pucacocha, Hatun Pucacocha and Qomercocha). Our second camp is near the Ausangate snow mountain.

🕗 Duration: 7 hours

📉 Maximum elevation: 4400m. / 14435ft.
⛺ Lodging: Sirenacocha

After our breakfast, we will start walking uphill for approximately 1 hour and a half until we reach the Ausangate pass (4930m/16170ft.).

In this pass, we will see red mountains and we will also have the opportunity to see vicuñas, chinchillas and alpacas, we will begin to descend for 1 hour and a half until we reach the town of Alccatauri (4400m./14435ft.).

We will continue walking for 30 minutes uphill to our lunch place, after reinforcing lunch, we will begin our walk uphill until the second pass. following the Llama trail to the Minasniyuq Pass.

Here we will have our first views of the Rainbow Mountain (5020m./16469ft). In this pass, we will make offerings to Pacha Mama (Mother Earth). then we continue walking downhill for approximately 1 hour to our camp, Sirenacocha (4800m./15748 ft). dinner, overnight.

After our delicious last breakfast, we will start our walk for approximately 2 hours until we reach the famous Rainbow Mountain (5020 m/16469ft.), after taking photos and enjoying the view, listening the explanation of our guide, we will continue the 2 hour walk to our lunch and meeting place

In the parking our transport will wait for us and will return us to Cusco for approximately 3 hours of driving to the hotel.
